Book Updates: Other Series
OTHER NO NAMES
pg 158-159 In general, these glasses have been selling well above book values, indicating we underestimated both value and rarity. These are some of the most colorful and unusual flower glasses. It is quite possible that some of these are Dauntless peanut butter glasses as they appear most often in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan.

OTHER SERIES
A rare new series of Sailboat/Lighthouse from Velvet Peanut Butter
pg 194-195 This set features white birds at the top and green waves at the bottom. Shown here is number 7. May be available with indented base (shown) or standard base? These would definitely be considered rare.

Fruits
pg 178-181 Two variations of red & white Cherry, bright red and darker red. There are more color variations of the various fruits than pictured in the book. Two fruit glasses (Lemon and Orange) appeared at auction with Velvet PB labels, a Michigan company. Clearly, the fruit glasses were marketed by two companies, Hulman (Indiana-Illinois) with Dauntless PB and also Velvet. An example of a glass company, Libby, selling "packing tumblers" to two different "product" companies. So, they are actually Dauntless/Velvet PB glasses. A water pitcher with identical graphics to the Apples is also available, as well as thin bottom tea, water and juice size Apples. There are also 5" thin bottom glasses in the other fruits as well. Most of the thin bottom glasses have the same graphics, but there is a pink cherry and possibly other thin bottom glasses that are not the same. Boxed sets of these glasses describe the glasses as "Delicious Fruits."
Alphabet
pg 196-197 Area of distribution should include KY and TN, hard glasses to find. This series of 26 glasses makes a great collection. It is quite likely these were "product" glasses, possibly peanut butter. More information would be most welcome.
Norris PB Birds
pg 168-171 ADDITIONS: Rare Cardinal similar to pictured Cardinal but additional thick black leaves and branches and very thick black name. There is an additional very rare Cardinal glass with only one cardinal on a dogwood branch and the opposite side blank that logically belongs in this series. Both of these Cardinal glasses are pictured below. The dark Blue Jay on page 168 has two distinct variations, one blue and one very dark blue. The Killdeer is harder to find than the Kingfisher. The Bobolink should be $40-80 rarity 6.

Everglades Birds
pg 173 Box set of eight recently found and now in collection of Mr. Brandt. These are VERY hard to find: rarity 7 value $30-60.
Audubon Birds
pg 173-174 A pale orange variation of the Oriole on page 174 exists. This series is easier to find than indicated: rarity 3. Also 5" thin base available.
Game Birds
pg 174-175 Federal duck seen with Ann Page grape jelly label (1950s).
Federal series of entirely black game birds includes four (not eight as stated in book): Labrador Goose, Grouse, Canvasback and Ring-Necked Pheasant. These come in various sizes and shapes.
The Quail on page 175 is definitely part of the Federal series on page 174. Two variations of the Duck and Wild Geese exist. One duck has more red on breast and black name, the other has more white and red name. The Wild Geese not shown in book is lighter with white breast. None hard to find.
As shown below, the common 5 inch series by Federal also comes in a 5 1/2 inch size which is much harder to find.

Bird & Butterfly series
pg 174 ADDITION 7" tumbler with same graphics as far left photo but with no name; quite large, possibly a cocktail shaker? Ice Tea glass 6 3/8" with lip and thin bottom, identical graphics but pale yellow leaves at top, green leaves around base, a colorful glass. The ice tea and juice are much harder to find than the water. There is also a water pitcher with identical graphics. While these are pictured with the Cardinal, all but the 4" should be available with the Baltimore Oriole, Blue Jay, and Goldfinch. The Goldfinch seems to be the most elusive bird in this series. More info on this interesting series would be welcome.
Seven size variations to date: 3 3/4" juice, 4" juice, 5 1/4" water, 5" water (this glass has thick rounded base, name at top without "The"), 6 1/2" teas, 7". Three of the 4" size were purchased from Indonesia. To date, the water pitcher has been found with the Cardinal and Goldfinch. These pitchers are very difficult to find. All have same graphics of the bird and butterfly. The only glass that is easy to find is the 5" water. A very interesting series for those who like birds.
It appears very likely that some of the Bird and Butterfly glasses were used by Big Top. See John's Jottings for more information.

Ann Page PB bird series
pg 171-172 ADDITION Cardinal variation with orange (not red) Cardinal
Both the Cactus Wren and the Cardinal have been confirmed in a 5" size, not the usual 5 3/16". Same style glass with lip and thick base. More of this series probably is available in 5". Info courtesy of Rich Brower.
Picture below are four different variations of the Blue Jay from this series. The second picture from the left has unusual gold highlights. Have not seen so many variations of other birds from the series, although there are some.

Transportation series
pg 182-183 Interesting discovery! The Pony Express and The Surrey are signed in small print at the bottom: Stan Kelly. There may be others signed, would appear he is artist for this series. Did not find any information about him, would have been circa 1950. The Ox Cart is clearly the most difficult to find of this series and recently sold for $310 at auction.
Christmas
pg 184-185 A dark red variation of 5" Santa with List exists. The ice teas on page 185 vary in rarity: Cheery Santa 5, Santa on Roof 6, Santa in Sleigh 7.
A new find, very rare 5 1/2 inch Santa with train.

History Dogs
pg 186-187 Widespread distribution and definitely NOT Boscul. Big News! Below is a full page ad for this series of dog glasses. The ad is from a 1952 magazine and clearly shows that the History Dogs were sold filled with Kroger peanut butter and called "Party Tumblers." With their widespread distribution in the country, they may well have been marketed with other products or offered as premiums. Congratulations and a big "thank you" to collector John Rose of Michigan, who found this ad in a magazine at his library and sent it to me. A great find, John!

Animals (Blue Plate) pg 198
Juice Glasses: (photo below left) In addition to the 5" with no lip and 5 1/4" with lip, juice glasses that are 3 5/8" have been found, six different graphics to date. The juices are much harder to find.
Deco Horse and Deer: (photo below center and right) These are 5 1/4" with no lip, pictured are two with Blue Plate peanut butter labels. These are rare, compared to the regular wavy band and white fence glasses to the left, which are more common.

Four Blue Plate Critters: A set of four animal glasses that sold with Blue Plate peanut butter, and possibly other Blue Plate products. They are 5 1/4" tall with a lip and thin base: PUDGY PIG, BUZZY BUNNY, BUSHY SQUIRREL and SPUNKY SKUNK. Each comes in just the color shown. Not rare but not common.
Additional Blue Plate glasses: Not in the book, with wavy bands. A yellow lion and sheep with label.
New Blue Plate Series: No wavy bands or white fence. Two 5 1/4 inch Blue Plate glasses with a different design. Squirrels large and small and Poodles large and small. Other variations exist including Vintage Automobiles.
Football series
pg 206 Known glasses: #2 Kentucky through #21 Michigan State. Rumor of #1 VPI is unconfirmed. Our statement of #1 through #23 is likely wrong. Dave has collected this Big Top series for many years and doesn't have 1, 22 or 23. Thanks to longtime football glass collector Mr. John Rose of Michigan, who also doesn't have 1, 22, 23, for this information. Go to glass411.info to see photos.
Race Horse series
pg 209 There are three known variations of these colorful glasses as shown below:
5 1/4" very thick rounded bottom, color of rings at top matches color of horse, 8 in set
5 1/4" very thick rounded bottom, color of rings at top white, horses colored, 8 in set
5" thin rounded bottom, rings at top match color of horse, 8 in set
These are likely "product glasses," perhaps Velvet or Big Top peanut butter. In the letter from the owner and CEO of Big Top William Young (see Tumbler Talk), he mentions Race Horse glasses 1, 2, 3, 4. His listing of glasses is not complete (done from memory) so Big Top is a real possibility. Colorful glasses and hard to find.

Song Glass series
pg 213 IMPORTANT CORRECTION: The last seven glasses shown at the bottom of page 213 are quite different from the rest. These are thick rounded bottoms and tri-colored with a bar of music notes. These can be found in both 5 1/4" and 5" sizes. They are more colorful and much more difficult to find than the Big Top song series on pages 210-213. They may be Big Top, since both the rounded bottom State glasses and rounded bottom Sleeping Beauty glasses are Big Top. These rounded-bottom glasses have fewer variations. To confuse the matter further, on page 166 at the bottom is a labeled Velvet peanut butter glass with a thick, straight (standard) base and similar graphics with a bar of music notes but two-colored. These Velvet song glasses come in 5 9/16" tea and 5" water sizes with standard base. Eight different glasses have been identified in this series of Velvet PB, perhaps a set? The water and tea have identical graphics, but different colors. For example, "My Old Kentucky Home" tea glass is blue and the water glass is green. Hard to find. See photos below of the Velvet peanut butter song glasses.

Wizard of Oz
pg 217 The hard to find Winkies series with starburst bottom appears to come in gray only; the fluted base Winkies come in various colors. Some unusual and apparently very rare Oz glasses sold recently on eBay, marked Loews 1939: black Toto $1425, red Wizard $1030, Gray Tinman $359 and red Scarecrow $61. Wow!
Presidents
pg 208 It is very likely that not all of the presidents up to Theodore Roosevelt were included in this series. OR they are extremely rare. Info welcome on any additions to the following: Washington (1) Jefferson (3) Madison (4) Jackson (7) Lincoln (16) McKinley (25) Theodore Roosevelt (26). Dave is interested if you find any others.
A slightly taller, thin bottom version is also available in this series.
Pictured below is a full Abraham Lincoln glass with Goody-Goody peanut butter, a company in Indianapolis, IN. This clearly shows that these are peanut butter glasses. Washington and Lincoln glasses are found occasionally.

pg 209 Six glasses listed are the complete series, sell in the $10-15 range
Racing Greyhounds
pg 209 There are now four known rare solid color Greyhounds. #1 Green, #4 Red, #6 Orange, and #8 Green. All eight should exist, but try to find them!

Shedd's City Series
pg 200-201 These glasses are harder to find than "with some effort", should say "a lot of effort." Glasses in the series are:
US: (5) Detroit, Indianapolis, Louisville, San Francisco, Washington
International: (7) Cairo, Madrid, Rome, Rio de Janiero, London, Singapore, Paris
These glasses are incorrectly identified in the book on page 200 as Big Top. They are Shedd's peanut butter. There are color variations of same glass. Below is a recently discovered advertisement showing the 12 glasses available.
