Colorcraft mid-century complete set of nine glasses featuring all 50 states. The first eight glasses each display a different portion of the U.S. map with states and their capitals on the front. The reverse side lists facts about each state. The ninth glass shows a map of the entire country in red, white and blue. The very colorful glasses stand 5-1/2" tall and hold 12 ounces.

Federal Game Birds
This set of four game birds came in a box set of eight from Michigan. They were made by Federal Glass and are identical in size and shape to the Everglades Birds on page 173. I have never seen any of these birds before. They would definitely be considered rare.

Brockway Five Civilized Tribes
This set of six attractive glasses representing the "Five Civilized Tribes" measure 5 inches tall with a thick base. I have only seen this set once, but I see the master glass listing the Brockway factories occasionally. I doubt if the Native Americans appreciated the term "civilized." Does anyone know more about this vintage set?

Decal Nursery Rhymes
These cute vintage glasses measure 4 3/4 inches with a lip and thin base. They are marked with an F in a shield for Federal Glass and appear to be applied decals. Does anyone have any further information?

Monarch Peanut Butter Glasses "Luke and Lucy"
These delightful glasses came filled with Monarch Peanut Butter as verified by a 1948 ad. There are 7 known designs in 4 colors, each glass being one color. The designs are Indians, Circus, Lemonade Stand, Picnic, Ice Skating, Snowman, and Santa Claus (the last three being winter scenes). The four colors are red, green, blue, and brown/burgundy. All the designs come in all colors, making a total of 28 glasses to collect. While still speculation, red seems to be the most common, with the other colors harder to find. Also, Indians are the most common and then Circus. The glasses are not rare but not easily found. The winter scenes are harder to find. This set has become one of my favorites as each glass includes lots of little bunnies and humorous details. They are swimming on the Lemonade Stand glass, dancing around the totem pole on the Indian glass, serving cake and playing on the Picnic glass, performing with the various acts on the Circus glass, and so on.
Luke the Lion and Lucy small were used by Monarch Foods to promote their products for many years. Monarch was founded in 1853, headquartered in Chicago, IL, and a huge wholesaler of food products with 250 different products in the 1920s.
The creativity, detail, and humor displayed on these glasses, as well as on many full page magazine ads, is truly amazing. While the glasses are not impressive at a glance, when you look closely, they have to rate among the more desirable of Peanut Butter glass series. Photos of this series can be found on glass411.info.
Many thanks to friends/collectors Joe and Amy Mayer (mostly Amy) who provided much of the information.

Circus Glasses
Here are two colorful sets of Circus Glasses. They are very likely product glasses and possibly Big Top Peanut Butter glasses.

Peanut Butter from Canada
Pictured are three peanut butter glasses from Toronto, Canada, featuring three brands of peanut butter. Both the Supreme and the Horne's are 4 7/8 inches and hold 9 ounces. The Supreme has an embossed Capital D for Dominion Glass on the base, while the Horne's has an embossed B-21 on the base. The Richmello glass is 4 9/16 inches tall, lip and thin base. Embossed on the bottom is an F in a shield, probably for Federal Glass Company. What is interesting on this glass is the graphics which are exactly the same as the Jungle Glasses in our book. This one has the elephant showering the native. These glasses came from Barbara Mauzy, well known for her three books on peanut butter glasses.

These two bird glasses, the Scarlet Tanager and the Kingfisher, measure 4 9/16 inches tall with lip and thin base. A Scarlet Tanager with a label for Club House Peanut Butter, London, Canada, was listed on eBay. These are hard to find. Perhaps there are more birds in this colorful series.
More Big Top Peanut Butter
Here are two five inch tall thick bottom glasses that are tapered, being 2 7/8 inches wide at top and just 1 7/8 inches wide at base. A number have been found with Big Top lids and one full glass. One is Flying Geese and the other is Flying Pheasants with Spaniel. There should be more in this set.

Shown is a small milk glass tumbler with a Big Top lid and label. There is apparently no end to the various glasses, sherbets, and mugs that were used by Big Top for peanut butter. Credit goes to Dave for these Big Top finds.
Ann Page PB bird series
5 3/4" with lip, thick base, and a white name: Vireo (yellow), Blue Warbler, Mockingbird (gray), Woodthrush (orange). These glasses are fairly common. Dave discovered this series in 5 1/8" glass with black name, pictured below right. Even more interesting, a colorful red 5 1/8" Cardinal is included, may replace the Mockingbird. A color variation of the 5" Cardinal is shown below. These water glasses are as difficult to find as the larger tea glasses are easy.

Yellow Name Birds
5 1/4 inch, lip, very thick base. Known glasses: Baltimore Oriole, Blue Jay, Meadowlark, Robin. Rare and very colorful, up to six colors on one glass. Product unknown. Five known glasses in set. This Cardinal turned up recently, a pretty glass with pale green and yellow pine needles (not faded) and two Cardinals. Could be the rarest glass in this hard-to-find set.

Tradesmen
Set of four. 5 5/8 inch with thick base, no lip. A nice set and very hard to find. All three-colored with black and light tan on all four. Candlemaker (blue), Glassblower (orange), Potter (red), Tinsmith (green). No information on product, if any.

Stained Glass Birds
Pictured is a set of four bird glasses known as "stained glass birds:" Baltimore Oriole, Cardinal, Blue Jay, and Red-winged Blackbird. They are 5 5/8" with a thick base. Don't know if these came with a product, have seen a set of four in a carton. They are attractive and include a clever description of each bird. They are somewhat hard to find and a nice addition for the bird collector.

Presidents
Located a nice boxed set of these, made by Libby and including 32 glasses, George Washington through Franklin D. Roosevelt, presumably the full set. (mint in box, available for $195) Pictured are two glasses, Abraham Lincoln (my favorite) and Calvin Coolidge. Yellow in color with gold trim and a wreath, they list the birth and death date for each president. They are 4 5/8" tall with a thin base. No information about a product, if any. A neat series for the president or history buff.

Birds #1 - set of four
This set of four vintage bird glasses appears to be the complete set. They are 5 1/8 inches tall, lip, thin base, slanted at base. Western Tanager, Robin, Bluebird, Brown Thrush, probably a complete set. These are not often seen. Clearly vintage, but no information on how they were sold.

Birds #2 - set of four
Another set, clearly by the same company, these are 5 3/4 inches tall, lip, thin base and slanted at base. Oriole, Goldfinches, Blue Jay, Parakeet, probably a complete set. More difficult to find, have only seen the Oriole, Goldfinches, and Parakeet once! Clearly vintage, but no information on how they were sold. And yes, I like to collect bird glasses.

Frosted Collins glasses featuring State Bird and Flower
An interesting and colorful set of vintage glasses - frosted, 6 9/16 inches tall and narrow with lip, typical size for a "Collins" glass. Quite possibly there are additional glasses. They are not rare but not really common. They were most likely sold as state souvenir glasses.

York PB Alice in Wonderland
Pictured is an Alice in Wonderland set from Canada. On the right is an advertising ink blotter from Western Canada that confirms this series is York Peanut Butter. There are five known glasses in the set; the brown March Hare is missing from the photo. The glasses are 4 5/8" with thin bottoms, and one more example of peanut butter packed in "thin bottom" glasses. After obtaining the blotter, I spent four years looking for these glasses without finding any, now have complete set of 5. The blotter is now in the collection of Brittany "Twinkletoes" Myers, an enthusiastic young collector.
There are many sets of these Canadian character glasses, and most are pictured at glass411.info. Just my opinion, these are much more attractive and appealing than U.S. character glasses. Suspect many were also York Peanut Butter. They are hard to find, some very difficult. A few other sets: Robin Hood, the Jungle Book, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Davy Crockett, Winnie the Pooh, Big Red (Disney movie), and the Incredible Journey (Disney movie). See glass411.info for more info.
